Reflection: Building My Personal WordPress Website
Building my personal WordPress website was one of the first practical steps in the WP Credits program. For this project, I chose to use WordPress.com because it allowed me to focus on creating and organizing my website without having to manage the technical side of hosting separately. Since this website will be used as a portfolio to document my progress, activities, and contributions, I wanted a simple platform that would let me start quickly and continue improving the site over time.
One of the main challenges I faced was adapting the original template to make the website feel personal and connected to my experience in the WP Credits program. The default design included content that was not related to my project, so I had to replace the text, images, sections, and navigation with information about myself, my studies, WP Credits, and my participation in the WordPress Core team. I also had to decide what information should appear on the homepage so that the website would remain simple, organized, and focused on my learning journey.
Another important part of the process was thinking about how to present my work related to WordPress Core. Since Core is more technically focused, I wanted the website to have enough space to document future activities such as testing, learning about tickets, reviewing documentation, understanding development workflows, and keeping evidence of my progress. Organizing the site from the beginning helped me create a structure that I can continue using throughout the program.
One thing I learned during this process is how flexible WordPress can be. I realized that a template is only a starting point and that it can be adapted depending on the purpose of the website. I also became more familiar with the block editor, site structure, navigation, pages, posts, and the difference between editing individual content and changing the overall design of the website.
Overall, creating this website helped me better understand WordPress from a practical perspective. It also gave me a place where I can organize and present my experience as I continue learning about WordPress Core. Throughout the WP Credits program, I plan to use this site to share my progress, screenshots, reflections, completed activities, and links related to my WordPress profile and contributions.
